About Riverbend

Riverbend sits at the southwest edge of London, adjacent to Byron and anchored by the Riverbend Golf Club and Sifton Properties' landmark Riverbend Golf Community. Sifton broke ground on this development in the 2010s and has been building ever since — the community will ultimately include 400+ homes ranging from single-family detached to luxury estates, all set within and around the 18-hole golf course. The Thames River traces the southern and western boundary of the neighbourhood, giving residents trail access through the river valley and into Springbank Park. Riverbend attracts buyers who want new construction quality, executive finishes, and a community built from scratch to a single design vision — rather than the mix of eras that defines most established London neighbourhoods.

Local History of Riverbend

Riverbend is a new community by name, but the land it stands on carries history that reaches back to the earliest farming settlements west of London.

Kains Road — An Early West London Farm

circa 1825

Kains Road takes its name from Archibald Kains, born in Quebec in 1825. After farming near Exeter and running a distillery with his brother in St. Thomas, Kains eventually settled on a farm west of London. His land sat along what was then the edge of the city, and the road that once ran from Commissioners Road to the Kains farm has survived all the development around it. Today it runs from the Oxford Street extension directly into the Riverbend community — still carrying the family name.

Sandy Somerville Drive — A Golfer's Legacy

Sandy Somerville was one of Canada's most accomplished amateur golfers — a London native who won the U.S. Amateur Championship in 1932 and represented Canada in international competition for years. When Sifton Properties developed the RiverBend Golf Community, the private 18-hole course at its heart was built on land with deep sporting roots, and Sandy Somerville Drive — skirting the course — was named in his honour. The connection between the golf course, the street name, and London's amateur golf history is not coincidental: it is the identity the community was built around.
