Local History of West London
West London sits along the Commissioners Road corridor — a route that predates the city itself and connects the neighbourhood to the earliest chapters of London's settlement history.
Commissioners Road — Simcoe's Trail
1793Commissioners Road follows a path older than the city it runs through. When Lieutenant-Governor John Graves Simcoe journeyed from Niagara to Detroit in 1793, he followed a Native trail that cut south of the Thames River through this part of the province. The trail was widened and improved by Crown Commissioners — the officials responsible for colonial road infrastructure — and the name has persisted ever since. The road West London residents commute on today is the same corridor Simcoe travelled over 230 years ago.
Brick Street Cemetery — 370 Commissioners Road West
1813One of the oldest cemeteries in the London area sits on Commissioners Road West at 370 — a designated Ontario Heritage Site. Established in 1813, it served the pioneer families of Westminster Township, the rural municipality that predated the City of London and covered most of what is now West London and the surrounding areas. The cemetery is a direct connection to the earliest European settlers in this region and remains a protected heritage site within the neighbourhood.

Life in West London
The amenities, parks, and local businesses that make West London worth living in — not just worth buying in.
Cherry Hill Mall
The anchor of West London's commercial core, Cherry Hill Mall at Commissioners Road West and Wharncliffe provides residents with grocery, pharmacy, banking, dining, and retail all in one walkable stop. For decades it has been the practical backbone of the neighbourhood — close enough to walk, complete enough to cover most of what a family needs.
Thames River Trail
West London sits close to one of London's most scenic stretches of the Thames Valley Parkway. The river trail connects residents on foot or bike to Springbank Park, Byron, and downtown London without touching a major road. A surprisingly underrated asset that active residents discover and never stop using.
Commissioners Road West Corridor
Commissioners Road West is a well-established commercial strip with grocery, pharmacy, restaurants, and service businesses that cater to the neighbourhood's practical needs. It's not glamorous — it's reliable. And in a city where sprawl often separates people from services, West London's walkability to this corridor is genuinely valuable.
